We've all heard stories about an older man's pretty, young girlfriend being mistaken for his daughter. But a daughter being mistaken for a lover? Only if the person is famous enough that people know the name of the young fiancee but not necessarily what she looks like. Presumably, this happened to Howard Stern on Sunday.
Howard announced on his radio show on Monday that he ventured out to a chess club in Manhattan over the weekend. Because of his shyness, he said that his eldest daughter Emily volunteered to go with him so that he wouldn't have to go alone. Here's where the story veers off course.
A guy named Jim West writes a blog about chess, and he said that he was at "prestigious" Marshall Chess Club when Howard was there with Beth Ostrosky over the weekend. No mention of Emily anywhere. So, did Jim just assume that the girl with Howard was Beth? Perhaps Beth was there with Emily and Howard, and Jim just didn't mention Emily. Maybe Howard thought that the story sounded nicer saying that his daughter went with him when in fact it was Beth O.
Whatever the case, Howard didn't really rub elbows with the common folk as one would assume. He sat upstairs schmoozing with the president of the club and also watched some games.
